COLUMBIA, Mo. – Kevin Everett has been appointed as the new senior director of University of Missouri Extension’s Health and Human Sciences unit, effective July 1.
Everett brings more than 30 years of experience in health research, education and community engagement. He currently serves as a professor in the Department of Family and Community Medicine in the MU School of Medicine and has held several leadership roles at MU, including research director for the department and co-director of the Rural Health Research Center and Missouri Practice-Based Innovations Network.
Throughout his career, Everett has focused on advancing evidence-based approaches to prevention and behavior change. His work has addressed tobacco use prevention and cessation, cancer prevention, rural health and community health improvement. He has led numerous state and federally funded initiatives and built partnerships that have improved health outcomes for Missourians.
“Dr. Everett’s extensive experience in public health, community engagement and applied research makes him exceptionally well suited to lead our Health and Human Sciences unit,” said Chad Higgins, MU vice chancellor for extension and engagement. “His commitment to translating research into practical solutions will help us continue improving the health and well-being of Missourians in communities across the state.”

MU Extension Health and Human Sciences helps Missourians improve their quality of life through research-based education and outreach focused on health, nutrition, human development and community health.
MU Extension also expresses its gratitude to Leslie Speller-Henderson for her leadership as interim senior director. Her dedication and steady guidance ensured the continued success of the program during this transition, and the organization is grateful for her service.
