Dining with Diabetes
Join our Dining with Diabetes program to build practical skills that help you manage diabetes through healthy eating, smart cooking and simple lifestyle changes. In four weekly hands-on sessions, you’ll learn easy, research-based ways to prepare meals that support better blood sugar control — without giving up flavor. Led by trained MU Extension educators, Dining with Diabetes blends clear lessons with taste-testing and cooking demonstrations, so you can start using what you learn right away.
You will learn about:
- How different foods affect blood sugar
- Meal planning for balanced eating using the Diabetes Plate Method
- Cooking methods that lower sugar, fat and sodium
- Reading and understanding food labels
- Understanding health screenings for diabetes complications
- Strategies for staying active and supporting long-term health
- Setting and achieving SMART goals
Classes are friendly, supportive and practical. We encourage you to sign up with a spouse, friend or family member who can support you at home. Whether you are newly diagnosed, supporting a loved one or simply want to make healthier choices, Dining with Diabetes will give you the confidence to cook delicious meals that fit your lifestyle and help you take charge of your health.
