University of Missouri Extension, in partnership with Iron County Soil and Water District, will host a farm field day Tuesday, May 20, in Ironton at Mairs Cattle Farm. The farm field day is free, but RSVP is requested. Presentations will take place in the morning and again after tours, which will follow lunch.

“The amount of education to be presented with hands-on learning at this field day is very unique,” said event organizer and presenter Jason C. Morris, an MU Extension agricultural business specialist. “The farm field day allows for demonstration of successful management practices and economic sustainability that farmers can utilize in their own beef production systems.”

MU Extension veterinary toxicologist Tim Evans, DVM, is the featured speaker. The presentations will cover plant and animal toxicology, financial analysis of grazing native grasses, cost share programs and application processes. The tours will focus on grazing management, water systems, soil science needs and livestock handling facilities. Extension specialists and others will present at this free event.

The field day begins with registration at 9 a.m. The first presentation is at 9:30 a.m. with discussion and wrap-up at 3 p.m. Lunch will be served at 11:30 a.m.

“It is important for beef producers to evaluate different production techniques so they can improve profitability for themselves. In addition to programming, this field day is a prime example of how MU Extension partners with others to improve education opportunities,” Morris said.
