Heifer development, cattle health and taxes are important to cattle producers. Therefore, MU Extension is partnering with Missouri State University to provide the SW MO Beef Cattle Conference, which will educate cattle producers on a variety of current topics in the cattle industry.

The conference will be on February 27 at the Christopher S. Bond Learning Center at the Darr Agricultural Center which is part of the Darr Agriculture College at Missouri Sate University. This facility is located at 2401 South Kansas Expressway, Springfield, MO 65807. The conference will begin with registration at 9:30 am and last throughout the day.

This conference will discuss many current topics in the cattle industry with the goal of providing education to make cattle operations successful. The topics and presenters are as follows:

  • Heifer development nutrition-Dr. Adam McGee-Assistant Professor in Animal Science, Missouri State University
  • Financial considerations related to buying versus raising replacement heifers-Dr. James Mitchell-Assistant Professor and Extension Economist, University of Arkansas
  • Hot topics in beef cattle health-Dr. Craig Payne-Associate Extension Professor Veterinary Medicine, MU Extension
  • Cattle operation tax implication due to political policies-Wesley Tucker-Agribusiness Field Specialist, MU Extension

Agriculture businesses that support the conference will have booths set up. Attendees can visit the booths and learn how their products can help improve their beef cattle operation.  For more information or to have a booth, contact the Cedar County MU Extension Center at (417) 276-3313.  Deadline to register for a booth and pay the fee is February 13.

Lunch will be included with your registration. Conference fee is $20 per person. To attend registration and fee payment is required by February 20. No refunds for cancellations after the registration deadline.  No walk-in registration is allowed.
