Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention

The Tai Chi for Arthritis and Falls Prevention program is designed to improve multiple aspects of health through slow, gentle movements that can be practiced almost anywhere. The degree of exertion can be easily adjusted, making this program suitable for adults of all levels and abilities.

Tai chi, a form of mixed martial arts, exists in several different forms that revolve around the same principles: integration of the mind and body, control of bodily movements and breathing, internal energy production and the cultivation of “qi” — or “life energy.”

Published medical studies have shown benefits, such as pain relief, improved balance and reduced falls. You will learn warmup exercises, six basic and six advanced moves, and a cooldown for 16 one-hour classes. Harmony of inner and outer self comes from integrating mind and body, which can be achieved through the ongoing practice of tai chi.

Stay Strong, Stay Healthy

Join us to build the strength you need to enjoy good health as you age. Stay Strong, Stay Healthy (SSSH) is an eight-week strength training program designed to help you develop strength, mobility, and independence, leading to a higher quality of life beyond program completion.

In hourlong classes held twice weekly, trained instructors will lead you through a warmup, easy-to-learn strength exercises and a cool-down. SSSH exercises are safe and effective, and we’ll provide weights for your use on-site. There is no need to wear special clothes — just comfortable, loose-fitting pants, shirt, and sturdy, closed-toe walking shoes.

After completing the course, we’ll provide you with a guide to continue strength training in the comfort of your home — or encourage you to enroll in an advanced level of the program.

Multiple class levels are available at the FIC. Classes are typically held midmorning, Mondays thru Thursdays. These are closed sessions, and enrollment is required.
