Description

The Introduction to Project Delivery program covers the structure of the construction industry and the core processes involved in delivering a project, including drawings, specifications, estimating, bidding, and contract requirements. Students examine both preconstruction and construction phases, with emphasis on planning, financing, legal compliance, scheduling, job costing, safety, and risk management. The course also introduces a range of construction career pathways and highlights key differences between public and private sector projects.

Learning Outcomes:

When you successfully complete this program, you will be able to:
 
1. Understand the overall project delivery process
2. Discern the preconstruction stages of planning, financing, and estimating
3. Examine the construction stages of legal compliance, scheduling, job costing, and safety
4. Envision different construction career pathways and differences between public and private projects

Materials:

No textbooks are required. Students must have access to a computer and internet.   

Length:

This program is fully asynchronous. Each week includes instructional content, and students may complete the weekly requirements at any time during that week.
 
Instructional period:  
January 19 – March 15, 2026 (8 weeks)  
This is when students complete the core coursework.
 
Total program length:  
12 weeks  
 
In addition to the 8 weeks of coursework, students complete a work-based learning (WBL) component. Students may:
 
- Complete WBL during the 8-week instructional period, or
- Complete WBL after the instructional period, as long as everything is finished within the 12-week program window.
 
For example, you might complete coursework Jan 19–Mar 15 and then complete your WBL between Mar 16–Apr 12. Or you may complete both at the same time. Students may choose their own WBL site or request placement assistance from the program.

Audience:

Individuals seeking to transition into roles such as Construction Managers, Project Management Specialists, Cost Estimators, Compliance Officers, Civil Engineers, or other related construction positions, as well as those currently working in the construction trades who want to strengthen their knowledge of construction project delivery.
