COLUMBIA, Mo. - They're here: Emerald ash borers, which have killed tens of millions of ash trees in eight states, are now in Missouri. On July 23, USDA scientists discovered seven of the insects in traps in Wayne County in southeast Missouri.
From the Missouri Department of Conservation: The emerald ash borer (EAB) is a serious threat to ash trees in Missouri. This invasive pest will eventually kill unprotected ash trees. Many trees can be saved with the careful use of systemic insecticides.
Emerald Ash Borer University is the collaborative effort of the USDA Forest Service, Michigan State University, Purdue University, and Ohio State University. EAB University serves as the nation's clearinghouse on all aspects of this destructive forest pest.
