AI School collage: catheters in a warmer, a catheter being inserted into a cow, and a calf milking from a cow.

MU Extension’s Artificial Insemination (AI) Schools can give you the knowledge and skills you need to improve the reproductive performance and genetics in your beef cattle operation. AI Schools introduce participants to the art and science of estrus synchronization and artificial insemination through hands-on experience, presentations, videos and demonstrations. Topics include the bovine estrous cycle, care and maintenance of liquid nitrogen tanks, handling semen, preparing catheters, and estrus synchronization protocols. Participants will learn the physical skills needed for artificial insemination through palpation of bovine reproductive tracts and through practice passing catheters in live animals.
