This class is designed to provide the participant with the knowledge and skills necessary to quickly and efficiently identify hazardous materials and determine risk. A stepped process is explained and demonstrated through the use of available tools and resources to the emergency responder. We use scenario-based discussions for risk-based assessment, simple tools and observations for rapid classification of products and containers. Topics include: Collecting Hazard and Response Information; Predicting the Likely Behavior of a Material and Its Container Estimating Potential Harm; Sampling and Hazzard Classification; Field Screening; Risk Assessment; and, Action Planning Concerns.
