This 16- hour course, is designed to meet NFPA 402, Guide for Aircraft Rescue and Fire-Fighting Operations, 2019 Edition and is designed to provide students with basic ARFF emergency response knowledge and then apply that knowledge with 8 hours of hands-on live-fire training using the MUFRTI Mobile Aircraft Fire Trainer (MAFT). Throughout the course students will participate in various classroom activities and case studies to reinforce the presented material. Topics include: airport familiarization, aircraft familiarization, ARFF firefighter safety, extinguishing agents, Incident Management System operations for aircraft emergencies, airport planning for aircraft emergencies, hazardous materials associated with aircraft operations and handling aircraft emergencies involving Advanced Composites/Advanced Aerospace Materials (AC/AAM).The hands-on portion of the class will allow students the opportunity to practice various fire suppression, search & rescue, ventilation, and forcible entry techniques using the MAFT. While this course does not provide sufficient training to meet the FAA Part 139 requirements for firefighter training, this course does provide basic introductory knowledge and is specifically targeted at airports that do not have full-time ARFF services and rely on off-airport emergency responsers to respond to aircraft emergencies at their location.
