Linda GeistLINNEUS, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension state forage agronomy specialist Carson Roberts recently released the “Productive Pastures Podcast,” featuring livestock and forage producers, researchers and others interested in management-intensive grazing, livestock production and forage production.
“Listeners will be exposed to many brilliant ideas for how to improve profitability and regeneration in forage-livestock systems,” says Roberts.
The podcast is available on Podbean. It also can be found on Spotify, Amazon Music and iHeart Radio.
Roberts says the first two episodes feature Missouri farmers who raise grass-fed beef, goat and lamb and MU Extension state veterinary toxicologist Tim Evans on toxic forages. In Episode 3, Roberts shares what he learned at the American Forage and Grassland Conference and how you can you can improve pastures through new weed management products. Episode 4 gives insight into how ruminants play a role in human health and ecological stability. In the most recent episode, Roberts gives an update on how to improve yields and quality in sorghum x Sudangrass forages.
Roberts’ focus is on forage systems and pasture management research that looks at the best practices to improve drought resiliency, forage production and profitability. He holds a Ph.D. in plant and soil science from Mississippi State University. At MU, he leads an applied research program on forage-livestock systems to support one of the largest beef herds in the U.S. at the MU Cornett Research Farm in Linneus.
