Preregister by Sept. 4 for free event in Lamar.
STOCKTON, Mo. – “Helping cow calf producers understand how their calves will perform in the feedyard is important to the sustainability of their cattle operation,” says Patrick Davis, University of Missouri Extension livestock field specialist. The Missouri Steer Feedout allows producers the opportunity to experience feeding cattle and gain knowledge on how those cattle will perform in the feedyard on a small scale. Furthermore, these producers can use knowledge gained to make management and marketing decisions that could improve the profitability of their operation.
“The Missouri Steer Feedout Finale meeting will provide results on how the 42 steers on feed performed,” says Davis. Furthermore, carcass data and financial data will be presented on the steers to provide an outlook on how profitable the six producers who enrolled steers in the program were. This meeting will be 7 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 9, at the Thiebaud Auditorium, 105 East 11th St., Lamar. This meeting is being held in conjunction with the Barton County Cattlemen’s Association meeting and is a cooperative effort between MU Extension, Show Me Youth Ag Academy and Missouri State University.
“Registration is required to attend the meeting by Sept. 4,” says Davis. The meeting is free, and a meal will be provided with support from the Show Me Youth Ag Academy.
