The 97th annual Barry County Soil & Crops Conference is 6-9 p.m. Tuesday, Feb. 10, at the First Christian Church, 905 Old Exeter Road, Cassville. The event will provide cutting-edge information for beef producers in southwestern Missouri, according to Ian McGregor, University of Missouri Extension livestock field specialist.
“This longstanding conference continues to provide agricultural producers with timely information to help their operation remain resilient in an ever-changing agricultural environment,” McGregor said.
A local veterinarian panel, including Mike Bloss, Countryside Animal Clinic, Aurora; Voyd Brown, Barry County Vet Clinic, Cassville; and Briana Isakson, Dake Veterinary Clinic, Miller; will delve into local livestock health trends relevant for successful producers. This will be followed by a participant Q&A session.
“Herd health is an important aspect of beef cattle management that can greatly affect the bottom line of any livestock business, and the opportunity to be able to ask questions with three great veterinarians at once is rare,” McGregor said.
Cecilia Rocha, local livestock research professor at the MU Southwest Research, Extension and Education Center in Mount Vernon, will discuss the value of pregnancy diagnosis during these record-breaking market conditions.
Finally, producers will hear about the most – and least – efficient ways of providing forage for their herd from Carson Roberts, MU professor of plant science.
Brisket and pulled pork supper will begin at 6 p.m.
There is a $5 fee with preregistration or $7 at the door. Preregister online or call 417-847-3161.
