Published

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Alliance for Grassland Renewal will present a free two-part evening webinar on “Improving the Production Efficiency of Tall Fescue-Based Forage Systems” on Feb. 12 and 26.

Participants can attend either or both stand-alone events. A full agenda is on the Alliance for Grassland Renewal website.

According to University of Missouri Extension beef nutrition specialist Eric Bailey, researchers and extension professionals from across the U.S. will share the latest recommendations for managing both traditional toxic tall fescue and novel-endophyte varieties. The goal is to help producers improve herd health and boost profitability.

Producers will learn the history of tall fescue and toxicosis and how to select forage species as well as the effects of ergot alkaloids on livestock.

Two MU Extension specialists are among the speakers. Jared Decker, Wurdack chair of animal genomics at the University of Missouri, will speak on how to select livestock that performs well in tall fescue-based systems. Jordan Thomas, MU beef reproduction specialist, will address forage management methods for better reproduction results.
