Section 4: Tell Us About Your Efforts
How do you know your efforts are effective?
Let’s first consider outcome vs. impact. Outcomes are specific and measurable short-term effects. An example could be getting a speed bump added to a road that people usually drive too fast on. The outcome could be the fact that you successfully got the city to add the speed bump and that it does slow drivers down. The impact of that could be that there are less accidents on that street, or more children feel safe riding their bikes there now. The impact is really the broader long-term effect it has on the community members. Understanding the outcomes and impacts you make in your community is very valuable and powerful when seeking funding and working with stakeholders.
