Missouri Council for Activity and Nutrition

MOCAN logo - outline of the state of Missouri and an apple

The Missouri Council for Activity and Nutrition (MOCAN) is a partner-driven council that is housed in Columbia with MU Extension and is composed of professionals across the state from diverse backgrounds (e.g., educators, government officials, healthcare providers, nonprofit representatives, etc.). Through statewide networking, organizations work together to implement and support policy changes that will improve the health and quality of life of Missourians.

These are the three major values guiding MOCAN's plan:

  • Nutrition and activity – Healthy eating and physical activity promotes overall health and prevents or improves chronic disease outcomes.
  • Evidence-based approach – Evidence-based approaches must be used to improve nutrition and increase physical activity.
  • Many levels of influence – For approaches to be effective, individual, local and state stakeholders must support the changes being implemented.
