Designed to provide continuing education for members of the labor movement in Missouri, the University of Missouri Labor Education Program has developed a non-credit labor education certificate program to better serve trade union members in the state. Open to all members of the organized labor movement in the state of Missouri, the certificate program includes 144 hours of instruction with the following requirements:
All participants must complete courses in each of the following subjects:
- Grievance Representation
- Collective Bargaining
- Labor Law
- Union Leadership and Administration
All participants must complete courses in at least three of the four following topics:
- Labor and the Economy
- Labor History
- Labor and Politics
- Labor and the Community
All participants must complete a total of at least 144 hours of instruction in the above topics and other topical or advanced courses. Labor education courses that will fulfill this requirement include the following:
- Arbitration
- Internal Organizing
- Topics in Employment Law
- Employment Discrimination and the Law
- Effective Communications
- Strategic Planning
- Internal Organizing
- Occupational Health and Safety
- Media Relations
- Research Techniques
