SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension will offer in-person private pesticide applicator training in Springfield on Jan. 28.

The Environmental Protection Agency and the Missouri Department of Agriculture require this training so applicators can demonstrate understanding of pesticide competency standards and regulations. Recertification training is required every five years to maintain a private pesticide applicator license in Missouri, says MU Extension agronomist Terry Halleran.

The training is available to those age 16 and older who want to use restricted-use pesticides on property that produces an agricultural commodity and is owned by them or their employers.

Halleran says the event covers safe handling of pesticides, proper mixing, calibration techniques, environmental ramifications of improper mixing or careless application, chemical breakdown of pesticides in the environment, what records to keep, pesticide formulations, personal protective wear and how to clean it, pesticide storage, common Missouri pests, and integrated pest management.

The session runs 9:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Missouri State University Darr Center, 901 S. National Ave. Register online at http://muext.us/PPATGC or contact MU Extension in Hickory County at 417-745-6767.
