TROY, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension will host an educational hike 10 a.m.-noon Friday, Oct. 23, at Cuivre River State Park.
The free program, Bugs, Trees and Grasses of Cuivre River State Park, will be held along the Blazing Star Trail and led by MU Extension specialists Kate McDonald, Eliza Pessereau and Sarah Higgins.
The program is open to outdoor enthusiasts, hikers, families and anyone interested in learning more about the natural world, said Kate McDonald, an MU Extension field specialist in agronomy. Participants will spend time observing and discussing the plants and animals encountered along the trail while learning more about local habitats and ecology.
Registration is free. The event involves moderate hiking on dirt and rocky terrain. The group will not hike the entire trail loop and will instead complete an out-and-back route. Participants who wish to continue exploring the trail afterward are welcome to do so. Attendees should dress for the weather and are encouraged to wear sturdy shoes and bring insect repellent.
