HANNIBAL, Mo. – The artwork of former Palmyra resident and University of Missouri alumna Maddie Olmsted goes on display May 11 at Java Jive, 211 N. Main St., Hannibal.

MU School of Visual Studies’ Art on the Move outreach program and MU Extension are co-sponsoring the Hannibal Art on the Move exhibition through June 8. Hours are 7 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday and 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sundays, said Lee Ann Woolery, outreach coordinator for the School of Visual Studies.

Olmsted will talk about her professional art career and educational path at a reception at 5:30 p.m. Friday, May 11.

While at Mizzou, Olmsted participated in an emerging artist residency with a solo show, “Reflections on a Day: Mapping the Emotional Journeys of Individuals With Mental Illnesses.”

Olmsted holds a Bachelor of Fine Arts in fibers from MU. She manages a commercial art studio and lives in O’Fallon.

Art on the Move provides real-life experiences for students and alumni, said Woolery. They use hands-on professional career-building opportunities to return to their home communities to share their art and MU experiences.

The School of Visual Studies brings the academic resources of Mizzou to communities through collaborative engagements such as Art on the Move by MU students, faculty and alumni.
