This class combines two courses: Rope Rescue: Awareness/Operations and Rope Rescue: Technician. Rope Rescue: Awareness/Operations is designed for individuals who are new to technical rescue or are preparing to sit for the State of Missouri Awareness/Operations certification exam. Students will discuss, develop and apply basic proficiencies in technical search and rescue. The requirements for this course are based on the Standard for Technical Rescuer Professional Qualifications, NFPA 1006, Chapter 5, Sections 2-5; 2021 Edition. The second component of this combined class is Rope Rescue: Technician and addresses technical rescues that involve differences of elevation which may require the use of ropes to access and evacuate victims. Special skills and equipment are required for these types of incidents. Topics include: lowering operations, multi-point anchor systems, compound rope mechanical advantage systems, fixed rope systems, ascending and descending techniques, victim management, litter tending, high-line operations, and performing advanced operations in a high angle environment. This course will address Chapter 6, Rope Rescue, of NFPA 1006, Standard for Rescue Technician Professional Qualifications (2021 Edition). Requirements: Participants should bring helmet and gloves. (NFPA 1983, compliant personal harnesses may be used at the discretion of the instructors.) Please assure that all equipment is sufficiently marked for ownership.
