The fires we fight are an equal opportunity creator of chaos and will kill and/or injure any firefighter without discretion or discrimination. The fire doesn’t care. After investigating hundreds of firefighter fatalities in the United States, NIOSH (National Institute of Safety and Health) has determined the top five issues surrounding these firefighter fatalities. We will explore the NIOSH Five, the root causes of them and ways in which any firefighter can create a better culture to lessen or eradicate these five issues.
