In this course, participants will learn about the legal aspects of providing ambulance services by ambulance and fire protection districts or providing emergency medical services (EMS) by fire protection districts. Participants will review the board of directors’ role in determining the scopes and types of services to be provided by such districts as well as voter-approved duties fire protection districts may have regarding EMS and ambulance services and required memorandum of understanding required for districts providing an ambulance service. Participants will learn in detail about ambulance/EMS rules and regulations regarding fees, collection of fees, reimbursements, district and employee licensing, insurance, equipment, staffing, recordkeeping, medical direction, Medicare participation (including violations and revalidation), federal and state privacy laws (including the role of a privacy officer), patient safety organizations, and district management contracts.
