Description

Rural healthcare professionals seeking free, self-paced learning with CMEs can pick one or more topics to learn about, including: asthma, autism, care of older adults with complex medical needs, clinical ethics, diabetes and infection prevention. Course module activities vary and may include watching short videos, readings and interactive learning tasks to reinforce and apply concepts.

  2. Course description

This on-demand course is designed to enhance the knowledge and skills of rural practitioners. This course includes six modules presented by subject matter experts. The modules were created between 2021 and 2023. All 2021 modules were updated in January 2024 and two new modules (i.e., Diabetes, Infection Prevention) were added in 2024.

Learners can choose the modules to complete for credit.  Module 4 must be done prior to doing modules 5-8, all asthma topics. Otherwise, learners can determine the order of modules they want to complete.

We provide an optional Key Concepts Module Tracking Form you can download to help you document your your progress.

   3. Objectives

Global learning objectives
Upon successful completion of one or more modules, we anticipate learners will be able to:
•    Identify common barriers and develop solutions in the treatment of certain chronic conditions
•    Improve communication skills with patients and families
•    Recognize and proactively address ethical issues

4. Accreditation and course completion

Important dates   

  • Enrollment open until December 31, 2025
  • Course closes March 1, 2026
  • Evaluation and Verification of Attendance closes March 1, 2026

Steps to successful completion and receiving credit 

1. Complete the required HRSA Continuing Medical Education (CME) Participant Information Form one time, prior to beginning any module(s). 

2. Complete all learning activities for each module you want credit for. The module activities vary and may include:

  • Completing pre- and post- assessments
  • Watching video clips
  • Readings 
  • Completing online learning activities (e.g., matching terms to reinforce concepts)
  • Completing a module quiz

Successful completion of this activity includes participating in the educational offering, participating in the online evaluation process, and completing the online verification of attendance, enables the learner to satisfy the requirements to claim continuing education.
