Johnson County 4-H Council Committees

Throughout the 4-H year, the committees of the 4-H Council help to plan and coordinate much of the 4-H programming at the county level. The premier effort in the 4-H’s mission is to provide positive partnerships between youth and adults and these committees welcome all community supporters to join and serve.

If you are interested in connecting with one of these committees, please contact the 4-H at your local MU Extension Center.

Achievement Day
The Achievement Day Committee plans and conducts the Achievement Day events which include judging of exhibits and contests such as Public Speaking, Demonstrations, Clothing Selection, Fashion Revue, and Judging Contests. Members of the committee are responsible for setting the schedules for these events, securing qualified judges, assisting with the training of the judges, and overseeing the events as they occur.

Audit
The Audit Committee is responsible for providing security to the finances of the 4-H Council, doing this by performing a once-a-year audit.

Awards
The Awards Committee coordinates recognition events and awards for 4-H members and leaders. Their duties include coordinating the judging of various contests such as State Excellence, National Leadership, and Key Awards. They also help plan the annual 4-H Recognition Banquet. They may make suggestions to the 4-H Council regarding changes in policies related to different awards.

Carnival
The Carnival Committee coordinates and oversees the annual Johnson County 4-H Carnival. The Carnival is a large fundraising event including carnival games and auctions. The committee’s primary goal is to raise enough funds for the 4-H Council to finance its chosen events and, if possible, sponsor Johnson County 4-H members in participation of county or higher level 4-H activities.

Clover Kid Day Camp
The Clover Kid Day Camp Committee plans and conducts Clover Kid Day Camp, a summer activity available to Clover Kids where they engage in active learning, physical activity, and social interaction.

Expansion and Review
The Expansion and Review Committee is responsible for providing strategies and developing connections to improve the overall effectiveness of the Johnson County 4-H program.

Farm Time Fun
The Farm Time Fun Committee puts together and leads the Farm Time Fun event for all youth on the Saturday of the County Fair.

J.R. Long
The J.R. Long Committee is responsible for planning and coordinating fun events which are financed each year by the funds donated by J.R. Long. In the past, this has been large group events held in the spring, fall, or both.

Nominating
The Nominating Committee is responsible for assembling a slate of officers for the County Council elections, hearing recommendations for awards and recognition, and seeing that those recommendations are sent to their proper boards.

Public Relations
The Public Relations Committee works with the 4-H Council and club reporters to coordinate publicity events for 4-H throughout the county. They plan publicity efforts for National 4-H Week (the first full week in October) as well as other efforts throughout the year to increase the visibility of the 4-H program to the public.

Small Animal
The Small Animal Committee plans and coordinates training and events for the small animal projects. They provide leadership to plan and conduct the Small Animal Achievement event (aka Small Animal Show). Responsibilities include securing judges, coordinating the use of the facilities, and conducting the actual events. The Small Animal Show is held in conjunction with the Johnson County Fair.
