Donors help launch Barton County 4-H endowment fund

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri 4-H Foundation, in partnership with the Barton County 4-H Council, has established the Barton County 4-H Endowment Fund thanks to generous contributions by the Hugh and Fran Nutt family and Don Lucietta. The fund will be used to provide sustainable support for the Barton County 4-H program in perpetuity.

48 compete in 4-H meat judging contest

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The University of Missouri Extension 4-H State Meats Judging contest on Feb. 17 drew 48 competitors, said Don Nicholson, Missouri 4-H interim associate director. The contest is held in partnership with the MU meat science program and MU Collegiate Meats Judging Team. Contestants had the opportunity to hone their judging skills, and explore future career and educational options.

Horse Bowl tests youth on equine knowledge

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Missouri Horse Shows Association (MHSA) and University of Missouri Extension in Boone County hosted a Horse Bowl competition in Columbia at the Stephens College campus Jan. 27.Thirteen teams of students, ages 9-18, competed in three divisions: junior, intermediate and senior. 4-H community uses fair premiums to help ill 10-year-old

MARSHALL, Mo. – Fairgoers at the annual Saline County 4-H and FFA Youth Fair got more than they bid for this year. 4-H and FFA members and the crowd raised almost $10,000 for Haley Browning, a terminally ill 10-year-old from Marshall. Doctors found cancer after she had a seizure last year. She was airlifted to Kansas City, where doctors found a mass on a kidney.

MU Extension 4-H youth 'show' businesses at state fair

SEDALIA, Mo. – Twenty-one 4-H youth got a taste of running a small business by selling original handmade items to Missouri State Fair visitors, Aug. 10-20. Through the Show Me 4-H Wares program, youth are encouraged to start and run their own businesses with skills learned through 4-H projects, says Steve Henness, University of Missouri Extension state 4-H youth specialist.

Boone County Commission recognizes youth livestock judging teams

COLUMBIA, Mo. – The Boone County Commission recently recognized Boone County 4-H Senior Livestock Judging Team and Columbia FFA Livestock Judging Team. Commissioners issued a proclamation recognizing the teams for placing first in state competitions in 2017.

Missouri 4-H Foundation awards 67 scholarships

COLUMBIA, Mo. – On Sept. 29 the Missouri 4-H Foundation awarded 67 scholarships totaling $73,550 to 4-H youth throughout the state.

Missouri 4-H dairy judging team third at national contest

MOUNT VERNON, Mo. – Missouri 4-H had its best finish since 1998 in the 2017 National 4-H Dairy Judging Contest on Oct. 2 at the World Dairy Expo in Madison, Wis.The team finished third in a field of 22 teams, and placed in the top five in four of five breeds and oral reasons, qualifying for international competition, said Karla Deaver, University of Missouri Extension 4-H youth development specialist.
