Love gardening? Enjoy helping others learn to grow? Are you 55 or older and living in Clay, Jackson, or Platte County? If so, you can play a key role in bringing the Extension Garden Steward: Green Thumb Bootcamp to your community.
Volunteers help make the program a success by:
- Welcoming participants and creating a friendly learning environment
- Assisting with set up and take down
- Supporting hands-on activities during each session
- Entering assessment results and helping with logistics
- Recruiting community members to join the course
No teaching experience is required, just a willingness to help and a passion for supporting your community. Gardening knowledge is helpful but not necessary; MU Extension experts lead the educational content and volunteers are trained.
Two ways to get involved:
- Support a 5-week course, offered once a week with recurring activities
- Assist with a 1-day seminar, a fun, intensive gardening event
As an AmeriCorps Seniors RSVP volunteer (age 55+), you’ll:
- Gain meaningful volunteer experience while supporting food security and environmental stewardship
- Enhance your own gardening knowledge by participating in the course alongside attendees
- Connect with others who share your interest in gardening and community service
- Receive a FREE soil test after volunteering for 6+ hours.
Ready to volunteer? If you’re age 55+ and a resident of Clay, Jackson, or Platte County, join us at an upcoming AmeriCorps Seniors volunteer training session or sign up at this link.
