Women in Dairy meeting, Nov. 11, looks at estate planning, farm succession

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – The University of Missouri Extension Women in Dairy team invites families in the dairy industry to attend a meeting on estate planning and protecting family assets and farm legacies.

The free event is 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 11, at the Springfield Botanical Center, 2400 S. Scenic Ave., Springfield. Lunch will be provided for those who RSVP.

Lora Wright of LifeGen Law Group will present “Estate Planning: But What Does It Mean for Me?” The presentation will help participants better understand estate planning tools and how they can be used to protect their families, farms and future generations, said Reagan Bluel, MU Extension dairy specialist.

Topics will include the differences between wills and trusts, planning for incapacity, powers of attorney, protecting inherited assets, and preparing for the transfer of farm ownership and operations, Bluel said. Wright will also discuss how trusts, limited liability companies (LLCs) and other planning documents can work together to help protect farm assets and provide for the next generation.

Estate planning isn't just for large operations or wealthy families, Bluel said. Whether a family owns farmland, operates a dairy business, or wants to ensure children and grandchildren are protected, having a plan in place can help provide clarity and peace of mind.

The MU Extension Dairy Team encourages women in dairy and agriculture to attend, ask questions and gain a better understanding of the steps they can take to protect what matters most. Details and registration.
