BLUE SPRINGS, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension and AmeriCorps offer a weekly “Become a Garden Steward” program.

MU Extension horticulturist Tamra Reall says the program is a great way to learn gardening basics and meet others in the community with similar interests.

The interactive online program is offered 10-11:15 a.m. Thursdays, May 18 to June 15. Would-be gardeners can learn about choosing a site for a garden, food safety, three-season gardening, ornamental gardening, insect and pest management, promoting pollinator habitats and environmental stewardship.

AmeriCorps offers the program free of charge to Platte County residents who agree to become an AmeriCorps volunteer and volunteer six hours yearly. However, the program is open to everyone.

Register at www.muextbugngarden.com. For more information, contact Reall at 816-945-8113 or reallt@missouri.edu.
