MU, LU Extension offer free vegetable gardening courses

GREENFIELD, Mo.– University of Missouri Extension and Lincoln University, in partnership with the Greenfield City Garden, will offer two series of free spring gardening classes.

MU Extension horticulturist Matthew Huchteman will teach a four-part vegetable gardening “crash course,” which includes classroom sessions and outdoor education. Classes are 6-7:30 p.m. on the first Thursday of the month from February through May at the MU Extension Center in Dade County, 2 N. Main St., Greenfield. Topics include site and soil preparation, Feb. 5; spring and fall vegetables, March 5; summer vegetables, April 2; and pest and disease management, May 7.

Lesa Queen, extension agent with Lincoln University, will offer a second four-part series on practical home gardening, also in Greenfield at the Dade County MU Extension Center. The monthly sessions are 6-7:30 p.m. Topics and dates: top crops to grow, Feb. 19; planning your garden, March 19; Missouri native plants, April 14; and extending the season, May 19.
