ALBANY, Mo. – The 48th annual University of Missouri Hundley-Whaley Farm, Field and Family Day is Sept. 3 at Albany in northwestern Missouri.
Jennifer Miller, director of the MU Hundley-Whaley Extension and Education Center, says the free event begins with registration at 4 p.m., followed by wagon tours at 5 and 6 p.m. and dinner at 7 p.m. During the tours, MU Extension and industry specialists will give overviews of research at the farm. A community health and resource fair is open throughout the event.
MU Extension climatologist Zachary Leasor will recap the 2025 growing season climate in northwestern Missouri. Kristin Rosenbaum, field scientist for Corteva AgriScience, will discuss ongoing studies Corteva is conducting at the farm.
Attendees also will hear from state soybean specialist Andre Reis about MU research on soybean variety selection, seeding rate and row spacing. State extension crops pathologist Mandy Bish and graduate resident Feyisayo Akande will update growers on “Rot, Spot and Tiny Worms: Crop Pathogens of Concern.” MU Extension specialist Gubir Singh will talk about using drones in spraying, seeding and fertilizer spreading.
MU Extension horticulturists Gwen Funk and Todd Higgins also will share their work. Funk will talk about the All-America Selections display garden at Hundley-Whaley, and Higgins will give insight into how Missouri corn is being used in the distillery business. MU research specialist Terry Woods will present on pollinators and ecotype wildflowers.
There will be numerous family-centered events during the evening, Miller says. The MU Health Care Simulator Van offers hands-on opportunities to learn life-saving techniques. There will be exhibits on 4-H, fresh-from-the-farm tastings, food preservation, stress, farm succession, black vultures and more.
Northwest Health Services, Preferred Family Healthcare and Mosaic Medical Center of Albany will present a mini-community health and resource fair.
A free dinner at 7 p.m. is followed by award presentations. Preregistration is not required.
