KANSAS CITY, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension, in collaboration with the Extension Foundation, has launched a new Connect Extension subgroup, “Extension for Veterans: Honoring Service, Providing Support.” This initiative is designed to support extension professionals who work with or are interested in engaging veterans, serving as a national hub for sharing resources, best practices, and innovative programs.

Extension for Veterans: Honoring Service, Providing Support is a dedicated community within the Extension Foundation that fosters collaboration and knowledge-sharing among extension professionals, said Joshua Shinn, MU Extension community development specialist in Kansas City. The subgroup focuses on enhancing educational outreach efforts that empower veterans, leveraging extension’s expertise in community development, health and wellness, workforce development and more.

“We recognize the vital role that extension professionals play in addressing the unique needs of veterans and their families,” Shinn said. “By creating this national platform, we aim to strengthen extension’s impact on veteran communities through collaboration, advocacy, and innovative programming.”

The subgroup is open to all extension professionals across the country who are committed to veteran engagement. Members will have access to curated resources, networking opportunities and discussions on emerging trends in veteran support through extension’s educational outreach.
