ST. PETERS, Mo. – A high tunnel workshop will be held 9 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 24, at the University of Missouri Extension Center in St. Charles County, 260 Brown Road, St. Peters.

Norman Kilmer of Morgan County Seeds presents the workshop, said Debi Kelly, horticulturist with MU Extension. “He has helped hundreds of farmers throughout the United States select the right high tunnel for production,” Kelly said.

High tunnels are metal frames covered with plastic. They are a popular trend for fruit, vegetable and floral growers. They offer an extended growing period and protect crops from weather and some pests.

Kilmer will tell how to select a kit and build a high tunnel. He also will discuss how to choose the best site for a high tunnel. Kelly, as well as Lincoln University Extension specialists, will offer tips to identify diseases and pests, and discuss crop rotation and soil health concerns. They also will share information about funding resources.
