Free webinar offers winter dairy cattle management strategies

MOUNTAIN GROVE, Mo. – With snow flurries already appearing and freezing temperatures settling into southwestern Missouri, dairy producers need to prepare their herds for winter. To help farmers stay ahead of the cold, University of Missouri Extension will host a free webinar on winter dairy cattle management strategies 10-11 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 10, via Zoom.

“Dairying in the Winter: 7 Steps for Success” will offer practical strategies to maintain herd health, productivity and profitability during the winter months, says MU Extension dairy specialist Chloe Collins.

 Topics include:

  • Nutrition adjustments to meet increased energy needs.
  • Water access and heating solutions.
  • Bedding and shelter tips for comfort and mastitis prevention.
  • Ventilation strategies to reduce respiratory issues.
  • Hoof care and health monitoring.
  • Emergency preparedness for severe weather.

The event is free, but registration is required. Participants will be emailed a Zoom link upon registration.
