ALTON, Mo. – University of Missouri Extension and the Scenic Rivers Invasive Species Partnership will hold a free “Invasive Plants 101” workshop 10 a.m. Friday, June 13, at the Alton Freewill Baptist Church in Oregon County.
Sarah Higgins, MU Extension field specialist in natural resources, said the workshop will include a field trip to a property where invasive plants are being managed. Weather permitting, invasive species biologist Valarie Kurre will present a session on pesticide application and safety.
Staff from Quail Forever, the Missouri Department of Conservation and MU Extension will lead the tour and answer questions on land management. Higgins and Kurre advise those attending to wear long pants and closed-toe shoes, and bring sunscreen, insect repellent and drinking water. This workshop will proceed rain or shine.
The event is free. Participants should pack their lunch to be eaten before the field session begins.
