SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Business and community leaders can learn how inclusive hiring can reduce turnover, strengthen retention and improve workplace productivity at a regional conference Sept. 23 in Springfield.
The event, “Reimagining Your Workforce: Breaking Barriers Together,” will highlight strategies for second-chance hiring and other approaches that help employers build resilient workforces while addressing community needs, said Amy Patillo, University of Missouri Extension specialist in labor and workforce development.
Participants will hear from local leaders about programs that lower hiring costs, improve workplace culture and expand access to skilled employees.
The conference is hosted by MU Extension in Greene County in partnership with Arvest Bank, Ozark Region Nexus, the City of Springfield Workforce & Economic Vitality Department, MU Extension’s Recovery Friendly Workplace program and other organizations.
“Workforce challenges can’t be solved in silos,” Patillo said. “When employers and community partners come together, we unlock new talent pipelines and support stronger, healthier communities.”
Sessions will feature case studies and practical strategies for partnering with community services, supporting individuals reentering the workforce and reducing barriers to employment, she said.
“At the city we have programs in place that help those with legal barriers gain job training and meaningful employment, reducing the rate of recidivism in our area,” said Jennifer Biri, business services representative with Springfield’s Department of Workforce & Economic Vitality.
Patillo said the event is open to employers, service providers and community leaders. Lunch will be provided by Arvest Bank.
The event is 10 a.m.-3 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 23, at Missouri State University’s Robert W. Plaster Free Enterprise Center, 405 N. Jefferson Ave., Springfield.
