Want to learn more about gardening? Do you have a passion for sharing gardening information and making your community a more beautiful place? Join us for the Extension Master Gardener (EMG) Training. This program’s train-the-trainer mission is sharing research-based horticulture information with the public through educational outreach.

EMG training will help you:

  • Gain new horticulture knowledge and become a community resource for science-based information
  • Educate adults and children about the gardening benefits
  • Meet fellow gardeners

Dates: Thursdays, August 22– October 31, 2024, 9:00 am to 11:00 am via Zoom, plus six in-person field sessions. Five in-person field sessions will be on evenings and one in-person field session will be on Saturday morning. The date, location and topic for field/lab sessions to be determined. All participants will meet at Cole County Extension Center (2436 Tanner Bridge Rd), Jefferson City, MO 65101 on Thursday, August 15 at 5:30 to 7:30 pm for orientation session.

Cost: $200, includes EMG Core Manual. 

Program requirements:

  •  Access to a computer, internet, and email address
  • A desire to learn, work completion, and readiness to volunteer on EMG projects
  • Attendance at all zoom lectures and in-person field sessions is required
  • Following graduation, complete 30 hrs in established EMG projects. This course is for those who will volunteer with the EMG chapter. 
  • Min. age = 16 yrs
  • Horticulture knowledge and skills are not a prerequisite
