Mental Health First Aid (MHFA)
Mental Health First Aid (MHFA) teaches participants how to identify, understand, and respond to signs of mental health and substance use challenges in adults. Participants learn how to provide initial help and connect individuals to appropriate professional, peer, social, and self-help care.
This evidence-based course introduces the MHFA Action Plan (ALGEE), which teaches participants how to:
- Assess for risk of suicide or harm
- Listen nonjudgmentally
- Give reassurance and information
- Encourage appropriate professional help
- Encourage self-help and other support strategies
Who Should Attend
This training is open to anyone who wants to better support adult mental health, including:
- Family members, friends, and caregivers
- Employers, supervisors, and coworkers
- First responders, veterans, and community leaders
- Faith leaders, volunteers, and caring community members
No prior mental health training or professional background is required.
Registration Requirements
- Advanced registration is required
- Participants must complete 2.5 hours of self-paced online training at least 72 hours before the course date
