Clinton County 4-H shooting sports

The Clinton County 4-H Shooting Sports Program follows the guidelines, policies, and procedures established by Missouri 4-H Shooting Sports through MU Extension. Shooting Sports is a youth development program that uses shooting disciplines to help young people develop safety, responsibility, self-discipline, concentration, sportsmanship, teamwork, and leadership skills.

Missouri 4-H offers a variety of Shooting Sports disciplines, including Archery, Air Rifle, Smallbore Rifle, Shotgun, Air Pistol, Smallbore Pistol, Muzzleloading, Hunting & Outdoor Skills, and Western Heritage & Cowboy Shooting. Discipline availability in Clinton County may vary based on certified volunteer leaders and local program offerings.

Safety is the foundation of the program. Youth participating in Shooting Sports for the first time must complete the required 6-hour Shooting Sports Safety project (SS740) before participating in a discipline project. Each discipline also requires a minimum of 10 hours of instruction and/or practice under the direction of a certified 4-H Shooting Sports leader.

Youth interested in participating in any 4-H Shooting Sports discipline must enroll in 4-H through 4-H Online. When enrolling, select Shooting Sports as a primary or secondary club and choose the shooting sports discipline(s) you are interested in as your project(s).

Annual Clinton County Shooting Sports club dues are $10 per member, in addition to any required county 4-H dues.

A Kick-Off Meeting will be held in the fall to introduce youth and families to the program and instructors. SS740 Safety Training and Fun Shoots are typically offered twice a year.
