Mission

The mission of the Missouri Master Gardener Extension Program is "helping others learn to grow". Master Gardeners are trained volunteers with gardening backgrounds ranging from hobbyist to professional, from beginner to experienced, from young adult to senior citizen. The common bond is a love of gardening, learning and sharing. The primary purpose of a Master Gardener is to volunteer, but members rate camaraderie and learning opportunities as important reasons for participating.

Pettis County Show-Me Master Gardeners

The Show-Me Master Gardeners is the local chapter of the Missouri Master Gardeners. They hold meetings on the third Tuesday of every month (except August) at 6:30 p.m., at the Pettis County Extension Center meeting room located at 1012 Thompson Blvd., Ste. A, Sedalia, Missouri.

Service requirements

After training, Master Gardeners serve as a resource with University of Missouri Extension to give county residents research-based answers to their gardening questions. Master Gardener interns are required to provide at least 30 service hours during their year following graduation in order to become Master Gardeners. As Master Gardeners, they are required to provide at least 20 service hours annually within their community.

There are many opportunities for service depending upon the individual's interest and ability. Some of the volunteer service opportunities include, but are not limited to: Question and Answer booths at the Ag Expo; Sutherlands Spring Early Bird Sale and the Missouri State Fair; Community Garden tending; teaching classes at the Ag Expo and the Missouri State Fair; assist with the Annual Plant Sale.
