The Paramedic Education Program provides an excellent educational experience for qualified candidates, preparing them to become top-notch Advanced Life Support practitioners in their role as a Paramedic.  The program includes an academically rigorous didactic (classroom) phase, a clinical program based on the skills taught, and provides an environment that builds and shapes the students. Once the candidates have completed the program, they will be ready to meet the challenges associated with pre-hospital care and function as an integral part of an EMS system.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Paramedic education program covers all emergency medical concepts and techniques currently considered to be within the responsibilities of the Paramedic providing emergency care in a pre-hospital setting as set forth by the Bureau of Emergency Medical Services of the State of Missouri. This program meets or exceeds curriculum standards established by most current National Education Standards published by National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) and the Missouri Bureau of Emergency Medical Services. The education program will also cover topics related to future trends and care methodologies in emergency medicine.

Students completing the program will be ready to meet the challenges associated with pre-hospital care and function as an integral part of an EMS System.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The EMT-Basic course covers emergency medical concepts and techniques currently considered to be within the responsibilities of future EMT professionals providing emergency care in a pre-hospital setting as set forth by State of Missouri Bureau of Emergency Medical Services and the current National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards. The Educational program will also cover topics related to the future trends and care methodologies in Emergency medicine.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. Perform Trauma and Medical patient assessments.
  2. Demonstrate proficiency in EMT-Basic practical skills within the scope of practice.
  3. Understand basic vehicle operation, MCI operations, and aircraft utilization.
  4. Understand basic human anatomy and body system physiology.
  5. Provide adequate patient care based on assessment findings and questioning.
  6. Adequately write patient care report forms.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

The Advanced Emergency Medical Technician (AEMT) provides basic and limited advanced emergency care and transport to patients accessing the EMS System under medical control authority. An AEMT possess the basic knowledge and skills necessary to care for patients in need and function as part of a team that link from scene care to the Emergency Health Care System. The AEMT should be able to:

  1. Demonstrate an awareness of abilities and limitations.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to relate to people.
  3. Have the capacity to make rational patient care decisions under stress.
  4. Communicate effectively both verbally and in writing.
  5. Function as part of a comprehensive EMS system.
  6. Perform interventions with basic and advanced equipment typically found on an ambulance.
  7. Perform limited advanced skills and pharmacologic interventions beyond the level of an EMT.

COURSE OBJECTIVES

  1. Understand basic human anatomy and body system physiology.
  2. Demonstrate knowledge of operational needs and utilization of resources.
  3. Perform comprehensive assessments of medical and trauma patients.
  4. Demonstrate proficiency of practical skills with the scope of practice required of an AEMT.
  5. Display sound clinical judgement based on assessment findings and history gathering.

Critical Care Program

GOALS

The CCP course is designed to prepare paramedics to provide advanced critical care during ground and air transport of critically ill or injured patients. Knowledge gained during this course will provide instruction and understanding of care beyond the standard paramedic.

COURSE DESCRIPTION

Successful completion of this course will result in a certificate of completion, 90 hours of advanced continuing education, and preparation for the Certified Critical Care Paramedic (CCP-C®) and Certified Flight Paramedic (FP-C®) exams administered by the International Board of Specialty Certifications (formerly the Board for Critical Care Transport Paramedic Certification (BCCTPC®).

This course will provide advanced learning continuing education units designed to enhance your critical care thinking and advanced skills. Typical classroom presentation includes classroom lectures and hands-on technical skill training combined with low and high-level simulation scenarios. Not all topics of the course will be discussed in the classroom lecture, therefore the student will need complete online lectures and assignments not discussed in the classroom.

To complete this blended course and achieve the completion certification, all online and in-classroom work must be completed. Each week, you will have required reading, assignments, quizzes, online lectures, and in-classroom required participation. You must achieve a passing score of 70% on all quizzes to complete this course and attend at a minimum of 9 of the 10 classroom days.

Attendance is mandatory to complete this course. Students must make every effort to attend all in-seat class opportunities. Therefore, a student must attend a minimum of 9 of the 10 required in-seat classroom opportunities to be awarded a course completion.
