Want to learn more about gardening? Do you have a passion for sharing gardening information and making your community a more beautiful place? Join us for the Extension Master Gardener (EMG) Training in the KC area. This program’s train-the-trainer mission shares research-based horticulture information with the public through educational outreach.

EMG training will help you:

  • Gain new horticulture knowledge and become a community resource for science-based information
  • Meet fellow gardeners

Dates: Wednesdays, Aug. 7 - December 11 from 1:30 to 4:30 PM via Zoom, plus in-person field sessions

Cost: $200, includes EMG Core Manual. Limited scholarships available

Course requirements 

  1. Attend an optional information session before training starts on August 5th, 2-3pm, to learn about the program's expectations, test your Zoom account, and to meet your classmates.
  2. Complete all 16 weekly sessions of EMG training, including optional field sessions if possible. If you miss a session (up to 3 allowed), make it up by promptly watching the recording and completing the assessment to stay on track with your training.
  3. Complete all assessments to track your progress and understanding of the material.
  4. Complete the class project to learn effective public outreach skills. Choose  between a gardening infographic, oral presentation, or video. More      information can be found here: Project Details
  5. Upon graduation, become an MGGKC intern and engage in at least 30 hours of preapproved public outreach opportunities the following year. These opportunities include the MGGKC Hotline, community gardening projects, children’s programming, and video production to share gardening knowledge with the community effectively.
