Perry County Karst Community Plan

Perry County has a very challenging geology. There are more sinkholes and miles of caves here than in any other Missouri county.  A multi discipline community committee is developing a community plan to protect the water quality of the karst system. Here are the draft plan documents:  Community Plan (PDF) and Plan Appendix (PDF)  The plan will soon be published in the Federal Register. You may make an official comment on the plan when it is published, through the Federal Register.

  • A community business is doing their part to protect the karst waters and keep the soil in place.  TG Missouri is doing an afforestation project and planting trees in the industrial park on May 17.  They want to involve the whole community,  See the flier.

National Conference on Cover Crops and Soil Health

Perry County MU Extension Center hosted a remote location for this program.  For a materials and videos of the conference presentations see the National website for the conference.
Cover Crops is an old soil management practice that is seeing a rebirth.  We are now seeing benefits in this practice that exceed our old expectations on soil condition and crop yields following the cover crop.  This is a cropping practice that we need in Perry County.
