COLUMBIA, Mo. – Every year, hundreds of Missouri 4-H’ers, parents and volunteers commit to the pursuit of a healthy lifestyle through the Missouri 4-H Move Across Missouri challenge.

Between Feb. 1 and April 30 of this year, 275 participants from 37 Missouri counties logged more than 2.1 million total active minutes, said Angel Surdin, University of Missouri Extension state 4-H educator for healthy living.

“The MOVE challenge invites 4-H’ers and their families to see how physical activity can impact their overall well-being,” Surdin said. “It was great to see folks from all over the state embrace this opportunity to Move Across Missouri.”

Participants could register as individuals, in teams or both, she said. Activities this year included walking, playing outside, running, basketball, soccer and archery.

The top individual participant was Brayden Hallford, Moniteau County. Top team was the Johnson family, Jackson County.

Move Across Missouri is sponsored by the Missouri 4-H Foundation and Healthy Blue, part of Missouri Care Inc. These sponsors make it possible to reward participants for their hard work and to encourage them to continue to incorporate movement into their daily lives.
