Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) teaches participants how to recognize signs that a youth may be developing a mental health or substance use challenge and how to offer initial support. Participants also learn how to encourage and connect youth to appropriate professional care when needed.

This evidence-based training introduces the ALGEE Action Plan, which helps participants learn how to:

  • Assess for risk of suicide or harm
  • Listen without judgment
  • Give reassurance and information
  • Encourage professional help
  • Encourage self-help and other support strategies

Who Should Attend

This training is open to anyone who wants to better support youth mental health, including:

  • Parents, caregivers, and family members
  • Teachers, school staff, and youth-serving professionals
  • First responders, veterans, and community leaders
  • Coaches, mentors, volunteers, and caring community members

No prior mental health training or professional background is required.

Registration Requirements

  • Advanced registration is required
  • Participants must complete 2.5 hours of self-paced online training at least 72 hours before the course date
