Home processing is increasing in popularity due to high food prices and supply chain issues. Many Missourians are starting to raise and process more of their own food. Raising home poultry for processing can be cost effective and has the benefit of knowing where your food comes from and how it was handled.

The Webster County MU Extension is offering this workshop to teach individuals how to process their own poultry. Participants will slaughter and process a broiler chicken provided in the workshop. They will also learn about processing equipment, food safety considerations and how to process a whole bird into parts.

This hands-on workshop will provide participants knowledge and practice needed to process their own home raised birds. Each participant will leave with a whole carcass and additional poultry parts they learned how to cut. All materials and equipment will be provided and limited to 20 people.

The cost of the program is $25.

Some portions of the workshop are outside, so participants are encouraged to dress appropriately.
