Stay Strong, Stay Healthy- Greene County (Session 9 of 11)

The "Stay Strong, Stay Healthy" program was developed by Tufts University and is designed to help middle-aged and older adults improve strength, flexibility, and balance. According to research conducted by Tufts, strength training improves bone density, can help reduce falls, improves arthritis symptoms, and increases flexibility in middle-aged and older adults and can lead to a healthier, more active lifestyle.
Participants will do warm-up exercises for about 5 minutes. They will do 8 simple strengthening exercises that can be done with or without weights. Cool down stretches will be done at the end of the session.
Pre-registration by Wednesday February 27 is required. Please call the Greene County Extension office at 417-881-8909 to register.
Strong Women, Healthy Hearts (Cass) (Session 17 of 20)

This 10 week program is for women 4o years and older who are primarily sedentary. This program helps participants build up to 30 minutes of daily walking. There is also a focus on heart health -- class activities include nutrition and food connection for protecting the heart.

Cooking Matters is a culinary-based nutrition education program that aims at reducing food insecurity and empowering individuals and families with skills to cook at home.
Two hours include: engaging Nutrition & food safety discussions and food preparation. Participants make two recipes and enjoy eating together and discussing skills learned in class. Participants also take home groceries to make one of the recipe at home

Modified Stay Strong, Stay Healthy is 12 classes over 6 weeks strength training program for adults 60 years and older who use a walker or wheelchair. The program’s goal is to improve health and quality of life. The program incorporates warm-up exercises, strengthening exercises, and cool down stretches. Over the six weeks participants learn exercises to improve strength. The class meets twice weekly and all equipment is provided.
