Sheep/goat production PIE set for Oct. 28-29

"Sheep and Meat Goat Production Strategies for Missouri Extension Specialists" will be Oct. 28-29 at Lincoln University. The Professional Implementation Experience will provide technical information about new production practices.

Missouri's production of sheet and meat goats has been increasing along with growing interest in small ruminant production for specialty and ethnic markets. The PIE topics will include production and management practices, genetic improvement considerations, breeding management, nutrition and feeding recommendations, herd health assessment, environmental considerations and government programs.

Regional specialists should register by Oct. 20 via the Professional Development Enrollment System.

Cambio De Colores seeks abstracts for 2004 conference

Cambio De Colores has issued a call for abstracts. The 2004 conference is set for March 10-12 at UM-St. Louis. Conference organizers are seeking abstracts on research and best practices related to change and well being: economic, social, cultural and political participation; civil rights; education; health; or youth, families and communities.

Abstracts should include author's contact information, theme addressed, presentation summary, geographic focus and format -- research paper presentation (15 minutes), best practice paper presentation (15 minutes), workshop (up to 75 minutes) or learning station (15 minutes). Research presentations should indicate the methodology and the author's intention for publication. All authors should indicate whether they agree to setting up a poster display if their paper is not selected for an oral presentation.

Abstracts should be submitted electronically by Oct. 27 to Steve Jeanetta or Corinne Valdivia. For more information, contact Jeanetta or Valdivia.

Professional Development Notes

• TechLearn: Exploring Learning and Technology will be held Nov. 2-5, in Orlanda, Fla. Conference topics include techniques, technologies and content to engage learners; allocating resources for learning; developing content; and how technology is affects the learning culture.

• "Public Finance in Missouri" is the topic an Oct. 24 teleconference hosted by the Missouri Community Development Society, USDA Rural Development and University Outreach and Extension. Judy Stallmann, MU community development specialist," will discuss the topic from 10 a.m.-noon. To register, contact Saundra Noszek. The teleconference is free to MoCDS members; $10 for others.

• Proposals are being sought for the Louisiana State University AgCenter's 2004 Annual Diversity Conference, Feb. 18-20, in Baton Rouge, La. Proposals are due Oct. 31. For information, contact Doug LaVergne, LSU AgCenter's Office of Multicultural Diversity, e-mail or (225) 578-0794.

• The Children, Youth and Families at Risk 2004 Conference committee is seeking proposals for workshops, computer labs and share fair exhibits. The deadline is Nov. 12. The conference will be May 11-14 in Seattle. Information is available on the web.
