UO/E awarded $3.4 million in grants during September

University Outreach and Extension received $3,380,588 in grants and contracts during September to support high-priority programs. Proposals made during September totaled $2,049.

Awards

Poll Worker Training, $730,868 (new) from the Missouri Secretary of State; from July 1, 2003 through June 30, 2004. University Outreach and Extension will develop a comprehensive program to train election judges, including absentee balloting, civil rights, accounting, polling place procedures, customer service. Project manager: Mary Leuci.

St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management, $40,000 (new) from the St. Louis-Jefferson Solid Waste Management District; from June 15, 2003, through Dec. 14, 2004. Funds will support the establishment of a cooperative program to market waste reduction and recycling services to businesses and organizations throughout the region, thereby decreasing the amount of waste requiring disposal. Project manager: Max Summers.

SBA PRIME Microenterprise, $85,000 (renewal) from the U.S. Small Business Administration; from Oct. 1, 2003, through Sept. 30, 2004. Through this project, the Missouri Small Business Development Centers provide training and technical assistance to disadvantaged micro-entrepreneurs. Project manager: Max Summers.

Missouri Procurement Technical Assistance Center (MO PTAC), $495,000 (renewal) from the Defense Logistics Agency; from Oct. 1, 2003, through Sept. 30, 2004. The MO PTAC provides marketing and technical assistance to firms selling goods and services to the U.S. Department of Defense, other federal agencies, and state and local governments. Assistance provided through the multicampus project with UM-Kansas City enhances the business climate and economies of communities being served. Project manager: Max Summers.

Community Youth Development VISTA Program, cost-share (renewal) from AmeriCorps*VISTA; from Nov. 1, 2003, through Oct. 31, 2004. VISTA volunteers will work with regional extension specialists to help communities create opportunities for youth during out-of-school time and give youth a voice in policy and decision-making at all levels. Project manager: Jo Turner.

Census Support Services, $142,600 (renewal) from the Missouri State Library; from July 1, 2003, through June 30, 2004. University Outreach and Extension's Office of Social and Economic Data Analysis supports the Missouri Census Data Center by maintaining a data base library, creating new resources and distributing materials. OSEDA also provides training to state library employees. Project manager: Bill Elder.

Missouri Small Business Development Centers, $1,314,345 (renewal) from the U.S. Small Business Administration; from Oct. 1, 2003, through Sept. 30, 2004. The Missouri Small Business Development Centers provide high-quality service to pre-venture and existing small businesses through individual counseling, organized training, and development of effective products and processes. Project manager: Max Summers.

School District Information, $39,965 (renewal) from the Columbia Public Schools; from Aug. 15, 2003, through June 30, 2004. OSEDA is evaluating information about students to improve teaching and learning. Project manager: Bill Elder.

Missouri Educational Indicators and School Improvement Program, $394,210 (renewal) from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; from July 1, 2003, through June 30, 2004. OSEDA is developing resources and performance and demographic information to support the Missouri School Improvement Program. Project manager: Bill Elder.

Project Success, $138,600, (renewal) from the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education; from July 1, 2003, through June 30, 2004. Project Success provides technical assistance and consultation to 10 DESE teams addressing systems development and organizational theory, research on effective educational practices and fiscal management for school districts. Project manager: Bill Elder.

Proposals

Military 4-H Clubs, $2,049 (new) from Kansas State University; from Oct. 1, 2003 to Sept. 30, 2004. UO/E youth education assistants will work with Fort Leonard Wood and Whiteman Air Force Base to organize clubs, enroll members, train leaders and integrate military 4-H clubs into 4-H extension programs. 4-H will train Missouri extension staff about issues and resources for families of deployed National Guard soldiers. Project Manager: Bill Pabst.
