Missouri faculty to present at Galaxy II

Nine individuals from University Outreach and Extension will be presenters at Galaxy II, Sept. 21-25, in Salt Lake City.

The national conference for extension professionals is sponsored by Epsilon Sigma Phi, the National Association of Extension 4-H Youth Workers, National Extension Association for Family and Consumer Sciences, and Association of Natural Resource Extension Professionals.

Jinny Hopp, SW human development specialist, and Connie Mefford, CM 4-H youth specialist, will present "Alianzas and Other Collaborations for Change in Missouri." They will report on Missouri's work with communities and Hispanic immigrants.

"Global Village Experience 2003: New Partnership Between Missouri 4-H and Heifer International" is the title of a poster session by Donna Taake, SE 4-H youth specialist. Global Village offers young people the opportunity to learn through simulation activities how people in less-developed countries live .

Michelle Taylor, WC 4-H youth specialist, and Patty Fisher, NE 4-H youth specialist, will do a poster session on the "4-H Citizenship Youth Forum," in which young people learn about Missouri government through UO/E partnerships with the Missouri Bar Association and the Missouri General Assembly.

"Locked Up, But Not Locked Out of Extension" will provide an overview of the 4-H Living Interactive Family Education Program, which benefits children of offenders incarcerated at the Potosi Correctional Center. The team -- Lynna Lawson, EC 4-H youth specialist; Tammy Gillespie, Family and Community Resource Program project director; Elizabeth Dunn, FCRP evaluator; and Robert Wilkerson, Washington County youth education assistant -- will discuss the program's evaluation.

States Night Out -- Individuals still have time to make reservations for States Night Out, Sept. 23. Missouri participants will be dining at the Lion House, the historic Brigham Young home. To make reservations, contact Glenda Kinder, MEAFCS president, or Donna Taake, MAE4-HYW president. The meal cost is $18.98 plus gratuity.
